Naval Science Instructor

Military Biography: In January 2011 Master Chief Matthews retired from the United States Navy after 23 1/2 years of active Naval service and deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia (during Desert Shield/Desert Storm), and South America (UNITAS).  During his time in the Navy he spent time aboard USS Arthur W. Radford, USS LASALLE, USS NASSAU, 1st MED Battalion 1st Force Surgical Support Group, 2D Battalion 2D Marines 2D Marine Division, 2 Dental Battalion, 2D Marine Logistics Group, Fleet Aviation Specialized Operational Training Group (SERE-East), Naval Dive and Salvage Training Center, Navy Personnel Command, USNH Naples, USNH Guam, and USNH Jacksonville.  In June 2012, he was hired as the Naval Science Instructor at Pamlico County High School.

     Master Chief Matthews holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management from Touro University International  and an Associates of Arts in General Studies from the University of Maryland. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with 4 gold stars, Army Commendation Medal,  Navy Achievement Medal with 4 gold stars, the Combat action Ribbon and various other personal and unit awards.  Master Chief Matthews is married to the former Mrs. Jennifer White and they have three sons Spencer, Christopher and Eli.
